Crochet Star of Bethlehem - Palestinian-made

£6.00

These simple but beautiful crochet stars are handmade by Palestinian refugee women in our community. Finished with a single undyed wooden bead, they make a sweet addition to a Christmas tree, or a bag-charm, key ring or decoration.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced from their lands in the ethnic cleansing that surrounded the creation of the state of Israel (as the likes of Israeli historian Ilan Pappe have researched and written about extensively). Many Palestinian refugees ended up in Syria and Lebanon, where they have lived dispossessed and marginalised for generations.

These little stars are our way of showing particular solidarity with the Palestinian women in our community, helping us to keep providing them with an income and a creative outlet for trauma. Small as they are, we hope they can provide a little light in the darkness.
