The Sunbula cushion showcases the ancient Palestinian ‘ears of wheat’ embroidery motif, a symbol of resilience, abundance, and an enduring connection to the land. This red-hued, hand-embroidered design has been a hallmark of Palestinian culture for centuries, found in traditional garments and homeware. Palestinian embroidery was added to the UNESCO world cultural heritage list in 2019.

Crafted by displaced Palestinian and Syrian refugee artisans this cushion is more than just a decorative piece. It offers Oshana’s artisans a creative outlet to process trauma, connect to their heritage, and preserve a cultural legacy under threat.

The embroidery is stitched with 100% natural wool, dyed using vegetable-based dyes, reflecting the traditional techniques passed down through generations. With every stitch, the artisans honour their past and build a better future for their families, despite the challenges they face.
