Tayoor hand-embroidered cushion cover
The stately doves parading along this cushion are based on a traditional embroidery motif, widely used across Syria, Lebanon and Palestine. That's why we called it 'Tayoor' - 'birds' in Arabic. The dove represents freedom, hope and peace across many cultures including ours. For the Syrian refugee women living in camps in Lebanon who hand-stitch these designs, birds also have additional significance. In the words of one artisan, Mona: 'there is nothing more beautiful than a bird, birds represent freedom, they fly wherever they want, they land on any branch in any country they like. We wish we could fly wherever we want, and land somewhere more colourful.'
Its harmonious colour scheme, and the restrained use of pattern, make it an elegant addition to any room.
