For the first time, we have found yarn in Lebanon that is 100% recycled cotton. We've pared back the colours of our traditional granny square crochet blankets and let the quality of the fabric shine through for a mature, sophisticated effect.
As well as being more sustainable and better for the planet we live on, this blanket also changes lives, being handmade by Syrian and Palestinian refugee women who get 100% of the profits. Through this, they can send their children to school, pay for rent and food, and meet the costs of life. They also find a supportive community and a creative outlet for trauma through coming together to crochet in our centre.
In the words of our artisan Rima: "I am a mother to 7 children. I am a crocheter. This work has helped us a lot, it helped me earn my living and support my family. The whole family lives off this work. All the women here are are like family to me. I feel so happy when I am with them."
