Shubbak hand embroidered cushion

£75.00

Our Al Shubbak series is inspired by Damascus’ famous tile designs, which were found throughout the city before the conflict began. Damascus’ tile tradition was one of the finest in the world, each tile intricately hand-painted by a master of the craft.

Like Syrian embroidery, Damascus’ beautiful tiles are under threat - yet another consequence of the conflict. Through this design, our artisans preserve and celebrate both of these ancient traditions, safeguarding them for the next generation.

Like all Oshana pieces, it is made by Syrian refugee women who were forced to flee their homes due to the war, leaving everything behind. The women we work with now live in Lebanon, where there are no bombs, but where over 90% of refugees lack the money to buy enough food, according to the UN. Oshana provides a crucial and dignified income.
